DIRECT RESOURCE MONTH: SELF-ESTEEM? OR JUST PLAIN EGO?
Where self-esteem is concerned, January 2024’s Yi Chou (乙丑) month is likely to be pretty good for the Bing Fire Day Master. After all, the Bing Fire is the literal Useful God of the month. It is the element that sets the stage for the transformation to come.
The Bing Fire is the one who defrosts the Ji Earth, makes it easier for the Geng Metal to conduct their winter ploughing, and nurtures the seeds of opportunities for the Xin Metal Day Master. The Bing Fire raises the temperature, enough to set the Ren Water and Gui Water free from their state of inactivity. Indiscriminate use of this energy may be a boost to the ego, but problems arise when you start offering unsolicited advice to all and sundry.
A MONTH FOR OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS
The Bing Fire Day Master is known to be one of the most generous of the 10 Day Masters. Like the sunlight that bathes the world in its warm embrace, Bing Fire Day Masters tend to be generous with their advice – regardless if that advice is wanted or otherwise. A little like what I am doing now – writing a blog article that may be of no interest to anyone else.
But the sun doesn’t care if its sunlight is welcomed or rejected. It gives anyway. In most instances, the Bing Fire Day Masters tend to behave the same way. But in January 2024’s Yi Chou (乙丑) energy, some additional self-awareness may be coming in.
Why is that so? And in what form does this self-awareness manifest? When Direct Resource which represents wisdom, counters or controls the Hurting Officer which represents attention, this energy can be translated as an opportunity to gain the wisdom to adapt your communication style to your audience. To seek permission before advice is tendered.
For one month, in January 2024, the Bing Fire Day Master can use this energy to practice some active listening. To stop listening to respond, and instead, put aside the ego and listen to understand.
This will be quite challenging for most Bing Fire Day Masters. We are, if nothing else, surface skimmers who tend to take things on face value. The sun covers the surface of the earth but cannot penetrate to the depths of the hidden and shadowed corners in the hearts of others.
But active listening is such a vague concept, isn’t it? So, let’s make this easier for the Bing Fire Day Master. Let’s start our month of ‘active listening’ by reminding ourselves to ask open-ended questions before we rush in with our advice and suggestions. Practice this every day, and you may find it ingrained into our programming. A new skill to complement the Bing Fire!
