ABOUT THE 2023 CHINESE ZODIAC SERIES
In creating this new series, I’ve endeavoured to shift your perspectives of the positive and negative stars. They are neither promises nor guarantees. Instead, these are tools given to you for 2023, and it’s up to you to choose which one works better for you. The results become more obvious when we match our actions to the effects.
And when we learn to use these stars, that is when life happens for you, instead of happening to you.
Therefore, this post will include descriptions of the effects of the stars, followed by some ideas (or suggestions, if you will), on how the stars can be used. Please note that critical thinking is required on your part. Because without looking at the full information from your unique Bazi Chart, the ideas cannot be customized and must be kept as broad as possible.
RABBIT: 2022 RECAP
For the Rabbit, 2022 was a year top-heavy with nobleman stars… and pretty much, only nobleman stars. Therefore, in a nutshell, success in 2022 boiled down to who you know, as opposed to what you know.
But that was 2022.
Here comes 2023, with fresh energies and the chance to ‘be boss’ for one year. And what a Grand Duke year it’s going to be!
THE RABBIT IN 2023
GRAND DUKE/DUKE’S ARRIVAL
As the Grand Duke for 2023, it’s a year for accomplishments!
Therefore, the questions to keep in mind are: 1) What am I showing the world? 2) Do I thrive under the spotlight? 3) Can I exhibit grace under pressure? 4) When thrust under the spotlight, do I step up or do I run into the nearest rabbit hole?
You see, in a Grand Duke year, the spotlight is literally on you, demanding that you step up to the plate and take action. You are called to be an over-achiever. There are decisions to be made, problems to tackle, and obstacles to dismantle… and everyone’s looking to you for solutions. But let’s stop calling them problems! It sounds so negative, doesn’t it? Instead, how about we call them ‘hidden opportunities’? Because the biggest accomplishments come when you successfully flip a crisis to your favour.
However, there are no problem-solving stars on the table. Which means that you have to do it yourself. However…
GENERAL STAR
While there are no problem-solving stars per se, you have the support of the General Star which conveys authority, as well as the opportunity to improve your social status. It does not promise a promotion. Instead, what it offers is the chance to prove your worth. Let’s put ourselves into the boots of a… captain in an army. This year, we may be presented with a chance to prove that we can become a General. To do that, we need to be resourceful, we need to show leadership, we need to be pro-active, we need to be a problem-solver. Job titles are empty. Have you ever encountered an organization where a staff member’s word has more authority than his or her actual supervisor? Promotion can come later. Grab the opportunity first!
GOLDEN LOCK
The General Star is further supported by the Golden Lock. Traditionally, this translates as an opportunity for businesses to own a certain market segment. From a career growth point of view, this can also be translated as the opportunity to be recognized as a talent in your chosen field.
BRIGHT HALL
So at this point, you’re probably thinking, that’s fine and good for those who have been in the industry for a while. But nobody knows me yet. Aha! Now we have the Bright Hall which is a star of awareness. It represents people becoming aware of you. It’s the star of the upcoming talent. Another way to use the Bright Hall? It sheds light on issues that you have been highlighting for the longest time.
Using the General Star, Golden Lock and Bright Hall effectively requires us to keep our energy levels up! The way we carry ourselves, and the energy we radiate as the Grand Duke, is important. If you are the shy and retiring type, going through a Grand Duke year may be a little stressful for you. But if you relish the chance to contribute more, there is a chance to break free from your plateau.
Which then begs the question: what could possibly trip us up?
SKY CRY AND SWORD EDGE
No doubt, so much attention can be stressful! The Sky Cry is emotional in nature. Talk about over-active tear ducts! Jokes aside… the Sky Cry can affect how you view the ‘hidden opportunities’ presented by the Grand Duke. It could potentially create a scenario where you can’t see the forest for the trees, and effectively blinding you from looking beyond the problems to see the real potential of a given situation. To counter the Sky Cry, there is only awareness and a willingness to question our feelings. Questions such as, what am I not seeing? How can I turn this into my benefit?
Also, when there is emotional instability, the likelihood of arguments happening will increase. This is where the Sword Edge comes in. You may also be a little bit more accident-prone. This is a reminder to you to be more intentional with your words and actions.
HIDDEN CORPSE
The Hidden Corpse simply denotes potential hidden health issues. For your own peace of mind, do get your annual physical done. Pay some attention as well to mental wellness. With the Hidden Corpse and Sky Cry coming together, early symptoms of illnesses could manifest in the form of excessive or constant anger, anxiety or even panic attacks.
HEAVENLY NOBLEMAN
What about Nobleman luck? Will there be some level of support, at least? You certainly had plenty of powerful Nobleman stars in 2022. You have one. The Heavenly Nobleman is essentially a Wealth star. It’s a pretty minor Nobleman star, but activating this requires steady, hard work. It symbolizes your hard work being noticed. In other words, all these publicity stars must be fame and recognition based on your actual credibility – the results you can produce, not just famous for being famous.
INTELLIGENCE, STUDY HALL AND SKY NOBLE
What other support have you got? With the exception of one, nearly all the major intelligence stars are converging into the Rabbit in 2023… making this a great year to upskill! Especially if you have the Rabbit in your Hour! With the Intelligence star and the Study Hall comes enhanced learning capacities. Backed by these two stars, 2023 could be a year for you to tackle the tough problems! If it is accreditation and certification you need to grow, the Sky Noble actually brings exam luck (provided, of course, that you put in corresponding effort).
Remember the Golden Lock? Activating it requires a super skill. If you don’t have a super skill yet, 2023 would be the best year to do it. Therefore, it is time to ask yourself – what is the next skill you need to uplift your career or achieve financial independence or successfully create a second career?
HEAVENLY CHEF
And last but not least, the Heavenly Chef. Traditionally, this means good food and drinks. Since there is good food to be had, you can either eat it alone or share it with someone. Why not use this to build great relationships with the key people in your lives?
RABBIT 2023: USE THE STARS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
Now comes the flip! When we look at these stars in totality, how about… instead of waiting about for others to recognize us, why don’t we get the ball rolling? We start acknowledging the efforts of others, we start recognizing their hard work, and generously highlight their achievements. And we do it so often, that they cannot help but give back!

- Contribute Solutions. Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem. If a Grand Duke year means problems, then pick a problem that you can solve.
- Speak up! Speak up in meetings, offer your ideas and offer to take on the tasks of resolving issues.
- Mindfulness. Practice mindfulness in the face of challenges. Train yourself to look beyond the problem and look at the potential hidden underneath
- Upskill. If you don’t want to use any of the other stars, at least consider using the three intelligence stars to upskill.
RABBIT 2023: SUGGESTED BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CHECKLIST
For business owners, here’s a simple 4-step checklist to use all the stars in the Rabbit for your business development efforts in 2023:
- (Re)Define your niche. Focus on creating growth-related problems. Focus on the high-value problems.
- Be Visible! You, as the business owner must be visible! Show yourself to be the subject-matter expert, talk about your process, showcase your results, get active within your community. This visibility helps you generate business from your personal branding as the business owner. People get to come to you because they believe you are the one who can help them.
- Emotional Marketing. Why waste a good Sky Cry? Inject emotions and drama into your marketing efforts.
- Upskill. What is that one skill you need to take your business to the next level? Pick it up this year!

As you can see by now, this collection of stars make it an awesome year for the Rabbit to be the Grand Duke. But… where is your Rabbit? What role does the Rabbit play in your Chart?
YEAR PILLAR
If you have Rabbit in the Year, with so many acknowledgement stars, I’d double-down on social media strategies to enhance your reputation in your area of expertise. Better yet, upgrade your social media profiles to attract talented people, industry leaders or other influential people into your life!
If you prefer to do this the old-fashioned way, then the other alternative is to network. Look forward to meeting with influential leaders when you take the initiative to network. Mind you, they’re a little dramatic though.
MONTH PILLAR
These positive stars in the Rabbit must be actively pursued. They require action on your part. If you sit back and do nothing, nothing’s going to happen!
If your Rabbit is the Month Pillar, and you are a career professional, either put yourself in the profit stream or make sure that your boss recognizes your contribution.
For business owners, since there is a possibility of increased visibility, the best way to use these stars is to double down on your marketing or PR activities. An easy way to use these stars is to take part in those business awards such as Brand of the Year award, or other similar platforms.
