#53 BING CHEN (丙辰)/FIRE DRAGON: THE GIFT OF NURTURE

The Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon is like a bright sun over a green-cloaked mountain. It’s like the morning sunlight that gently caresses your skin with the promise of a brand, new day. Like the far-seeing and far-reaching morning sun that shines its light across the land, the Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon pillar has vision. This pillar wants to matter. Its biggest gift is its ability to nurture. It literally holds the ability to create a whole new world.

BING CHEN (丙辰)/FIRE DRAGON: OVERVIEW

The Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon carries all the most traditionally prized profiles – the Eating God, the Direct Officer and the Direct Resource stars. In the olden days, this trio is like the gold standard for a ‘good’ life. Now please remember that for the ancient masters, the definition of being born to a good life means someone who is born to a scholarly or even noble family (Direct Resource), has the opportunity to gain in stature (Direct Officer), and will never lack of food and sustenance (Eating God).

In the modern interpretation, we see this as a Day Master who will always have support from the people around you (Direct Resource), has the leadership skills to harness this support and the creativity to make your own opportunities. Still gold standard? Yep!

Obviously, the Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon has been blessed with a good blend of talents. So… how do we make it work?

BING CHEN (丙辰)/FIRE DRAGON: STRENGTHS

The flow of Qi or energy in the Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon can be a little complex. So please bear with me!

  1. We need to start with the Bing Fire (丙) Day Master. Like the ever-giving sun, the Bing Fire (丙) Day Masters are renowned for their visionary, magnanimous and generous nature. No doubt about it, you are a giver. And we’re not talking about giving on a small scale. Oh no! This is a pillar of grand gestures. When you give, it’s on a grand scale!
  2. Your Bing Fire Day Master simultaneously produces your Wu Earth (戊) Output star as well as your Yi Wood (乙) Resource star. Let’s talk about the Wu Earth EG first. Here is the base of the creativity that allows you to see a myriad of possibilities. Thanks to this resourceful Wu Earth (戊) Output star, you are literally a gold mine of ideas! The trick is to develop a willingness to bring those ideas into the light of day as opposed to of keeping them buried deep inside.
  3. Your Yi Wood (乙) Resource star is the seed of your knowledge. This represents your talent for gathering information. It also makes you a natural at creating a vast network of talents at your disposal. You are always curious about people. What makes them tick? What are their dreams and aspirations? Some might call you nosy. But hey! To nurture talent/market, we must first find said talent/market. Agree?
  4. Speaking of talent, we come to the Gui Water (癸) Officer star that can be both an advantage as well as a disadvantage to you. We’ll talk more about the disadvantages in the next segment. On the plus side, it adds diplomacy, loyalty and thoughtfulness to your personality. This star kicks in when you are in ‘nurturing’ mode. To flourish, plants need both sunlight and water. To nurture a talent or market, we need both a vision and gentle discipline. It’s akin to saying, ‘Here is what can be. Now this is how you get there.’

Feeling Lost? Just A Little?

I’ve tried to simplify the strengths as much as I can. But what’s to do? This is a rather complicated pillar. So let me give you a clear example in the form of a famous Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon Day Master – Steve Jobs:

  • Was he a visionary? Certainly.
  • Did he have a vision of what could be? You bet!
  • Was he not a goldmine of ideas that changed the world? Yes!
  • Did he have the knowledge and the ability to bring talent into his orbit? Again, yes!
  • Was he able to nurture a market that became die-hard fans of his ideas? Did he know what made them tick? Did he know what would excite them? Yes, yes and yes!
  • Did he not hold up a vision of what could be before the world and created a horde of loyal followers? Definitely!
  • Was he a nice guy? I’m not sure… which brings us to the vulnerabilities of the Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon.

BING CHEN (丙辰)/FIRE DRAGON: VULNERABILITIES TO BE AWARE OF & HOW YOU PRESENT

The Sun Trapped In Heaven’s Net is a classic moniker for the Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon pillar. The ‘Heaven’s Net’ literally refers to the unpredictable nature of the Gui Water (癸) Officer star. Remember how I said earlier that this star is both a strength as well as a vulnerability?

Without conscious awareness, this Gui Water (癸) Officer star can turn moody and restless. If it gets too strong, the natural sunny nature of the Bing Fire (丙) Day Master becomes hidden from view. Like the sun hiding behind the clouds.

The end result? You, the Bing Chen (丙辰) Day Master may find yourself plagued by constant relationship problems. Awareness is the first step to change. So if you deem this to be a problem, then be aware that you have the tendency to behave like tropical weather – sunny one minute, thunderstorms the next.

By all accounts that I’ve read, Steve Jobs was not an easy man to work for. He had been described as tempestuous. Natch!

BING CHEN (丙辰), BUT BETTER

If having smoother relationships is your goal, then the Bing Chen (丙辰) or Fire Dragon Day Master simply needs to learn the art of compromising. It’s not about compromising on every single thing. But you need to learn what you can be flexible about, and what cannot be compromised.

Back to the example of Steve Jobs, he was uncompromising about his vision.

Therefore, if, your goal is to create a lasting impact like Steve Jobs, then you will need to consciously allow your Gui Water (癸) – Wu Earth (戊) combination to happen. This combo creates an internal fire that burns so strong, it literally changes the shape of the world. How to do that? By developing faith in your own vision and ability. Like Steve Jobs, by having the fortitude to march to the beat of your own drum.

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.

MASTER THE 5 ELEMENTS

There are plenty of systems within the firmament of Chinese Metaphysics. Bazi, Yi Jing, Qimen, Feng Shui, and so many more. You name it, Chinese Metaphysics has got a solution for it. They were designed for different uses and for different purposes. But they’ve all got one thing in common – the 5 Elements!

The concept of Wood – Fire – Earth – Metal – Water are the building blocks of any and all Chinese Metaphysics studies. Master these five, and you will hold the key to unlocking all the Chinese Metaphysics arts.

So what are you up to?

My friends and I have created a fun 2-hr interactive workshop (conducted via Telegram group video call). We’re calling it CLIMB 101 and the objective is to deep-dive into the 5 Elements – how they behave and how they interact.

The concept of Wood – Fire – Earth – Metal – Water are the building blocks of any and all Chinese Metaphysics studies. Master these five, and you will hold the key to unlocking all the Chinese Metaphysics arts.

The goal is to give you a hack to instantly profile the modus operandi of any Bazi Chart. Figure out how the person operates, just from the 5 Elements alone, and this is what you can do.

What else?

The three of us are very clear that we would like CLIMB 101 to be an interactive session. We-talk-you-listen is so last century! So we’re gonna ‘play’ with the 5 Elements. Because as we ‘play’, we learn.

#52 YI MAO (乙卯)/WOOD RABBIT: THE GIFT OF LIKABILITY

It’s spring time! In Bazi, while the Tiger (寅) Branch heralds the coming of spring, the Rabbit (卯) Branch governs the month when spring is in full bloom. The gentle breeze is fragrant with the perfume of flowers. Bees buzz busily from bloom to bloom. See that field of dandelions? That is the Yi Mao (乙卯) or Wood Rabbit pillar.

YI MAO (乙卯)/WOOD RABBIT: OVERVIEW

Pretty as a flower! Yi Wood (乙) Day Masters are generally blessed with a certain degree of physical attractiveness. But in the case of the Yi Mao (乙卯) or Wood Rabbit, the striking Yi Wood is literally sitting on a Peach Blossom star (the Rabbit or Mao Branch is one of the four Bazi Peach Blossom stars). What does it mean exactly? Likability x100!

Graced with a pleasant and agreeable personality, you – the Yi Mao (乙卯) or Wood Rabbit Day Master – is usually found in the centre of a crowd. Just like that field of flowers, you are usually surrounded by people.

YI MAO (乙卯)/WOOD RABBIT: STRENGTHS

Yi Wood (乙) Day Masters are typically sociable, good-natured and well-liked. This trait is further amplified in the Yi Mao (乙卯) or Wood Rabbit pillar which sits on the Thriving stage within the 12 Growth Phases.

Deeply rooted in your Yi Wood (乙) Companion element, the Yi Mao (乙卯) or Wood Rabbit Day Master is the ultimate networker. You enjoy working, playing, and living cooperatively with others. And best of all, you carry a warm and convivial atmosphere with you everywhere you go. Being with you is just… well, nice!

Just that one gift alone draws many noble people into your life. The Yi Mao is literally born to connect with people. And when you do, you will find that you are never short of helpful people in your life.

The Mao (卯) or Rabbit Branch further attracts the Xu (戌) or Dog Branch into your Chart. The Xu (戌) or Dog Branch brings along your Wu Earth (戊) Wealth star which brings some much-needed stability to the Yi Mao Day Master.

Even better, the Xu Branch is the storage for your Ding Fire (丁) Output element. This all-important Ding Fire (丁) represents the spark of your intelligence and creativity. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the Xu Branch existing within your Natal Bazi Chart. Activating the role of the Ding Fire (丁) simply requires the intentional use of your native creativity and ability to think out of the box.

Finally, hidden deep within the Yi Mao (乙卯) or Wood Rabbit is a deeply-rooted self-belief. For all your niceness, the Yi Mao is, actually, quite individualistic.

YI MAO (乙卯)/WOOD RABBIT: VULNERABILITIES TO BE AWARE OF

Let’s go back to our field of dandelions. See how they sway with every little puff of the wind? That is the biggest vulnerability of the Yi Mao (乙卯) or Wood Rabbit pillar. Because you are constantly surrounded by people, also because you are such a nice person, you are wont to be easily influenced by their opinions.

Someone says turn left; another says turn right; a third says best to U-turn. End result? You are so lost you don’t even know where the end destination is!

People are your biggest asset. They are also your biggest liability. The trick to turn this around is to make sure you listen to those who really know what they are talking about. Otherwise, you may find yourself literally spinning in the wind!

Furthermore, while the Yi Mao (乙卯) attracts the Xu (戌) or Dog Branch, it also simultaneously repels the You (酉) or Rooster Branch. Both these animal signs carry your Xin Metal (辛) Influence Star. This push-pull relationship with the Xin Metal (辛) is best described as passive-aggressive tendencies that you must learn to manage, to maintain healthy relationships with the many people in your life. Otherwise, you may find that even though you are always surrounded by people, but the faces are constantly changing. People come in and out of your life, sometimes without leaving even the smallest of imprint.

YI MAO (乙卯)/WOOD RABBIT: HOW YOU PRESENT

People are drawn to you for your amiable nature. Somehow, even without meaning to, you project an air of subtle vulnerability. People love to take care of you! What a great asset! Be discerning with that power, and you will be going places.

YI MAO (乙卯), BUT BETTER

Lastly, a suggestion to create an indomitable Yi Mao (乙卯) Day Master is to learn better planning skills. Guided by a solid plan of your own making, you will be less inclined to be side-tracked by other people’s suggestions.

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.

#51 JIA YIN (甲寅)/WOOD TIGER: THE GIFT OF HONESTY

We’ve all heard about the Giant Sequoia, haven’t we? It is also known as the Giant Redwood tree. It grows up to a height of 85m (or more), and a girth of 8m. That’s huge! It’s a great depiction of the Jia Yin (甲寅) or better known as the Wood Tiger Pillar.

JIA YIN (甲寅)/WOOD TIGER: OVERVIEW

Look at the picture and I’m sure you can easily discern the key characteristics of the Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger Day Master. If you are thinking grounded, steady, loyal, straightforward, and reliable, you are hitting the nail right on the head!

This giant tree, the toughest and hardiest of all the Jia Wood (甲) Day Masters, is straight as an arrow, bearing with it – the gift of honesty.

JIA YIN (甲寅)/WOOD TIGER: STRENGTHS

  1. I believe I may have said this in my earlier posts – but it bears saying again – the quality of any Wood Day Master relies heavily on its rooting. In this Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger pillar, we see a perfectly rooted Day Master, like the tree sinking its roots deep into the ground.

This relationship carries an aura of stately regality and honour. It also brings confidence and strong willpower to you, the Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger Day Master. You are obviously no pushover (in fact, good luck shifting that tree). At the core of this confidence and willpower, lies a competitive vein that will push you to extraordinary measures in your pursuit of success. Words like ‘failure’ or ‘losing’ are anathema to you.

2. Your Bing Fire (丙) Output Star plays an important role within this pillar. The warmth of this element creates passion and also helps bridle some of the Jia Yin (甲寅)’s overbearing tendencies. Additionally, it brings a shine to your innate kindness and benevolence.

3. Your Jia Wood (甲) Companion Star and Bing Fire (丙) Output element co-produces each other to create the final element within this pillar – your Wu Earth (戊) Wealth Star. Think of this relationship as you, the Jia Yin Day Master, having a firm grip on your wealth. It adds pragmatism, industriousness, and tenacity to your burgeoning list of strengths.

Given its lofty heights, it comes as no surprise that the Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger Day Master excels at big-picture strategizing. With this pillar’s bristling potential, a Jia Yin Day Master, logically, is someone who will need room to grow. To reach its full height, this Jia Yin Day Master must have the freedom to do what a Jia Wood does best – to take a single idea and branch it out into various applications. Bowing down to authority will not only be painful for this gargantuan tree, it may even break its spirit. That is why it makes better sense for a Jia Yin Day Master to be running their own business where they get to call the shots as opposed to knuckling down under another person’s authority.

However, what is most remarkable about the Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger Day Master, is the palpable absence of ego. While you can be controlling and domineering, a Jia Yin Day Master is hardly one who will push yourself forward just for the sake of the limelight or attention. As a leader, you would be someone who would willingly take a step back and allow others a turn at the reins.

JIA YIN (甲寅)/WOOD TIGER: VULNERABILITIES TO BE AWARE OF

That competitive streak, one of your biggest strengths, can also be a vulnerability. When taken to the extreme, fear of failure can paralyze you. Granted, nobody enjoys failing. In fact, most of us are affected by this fear in one way or another. It’s part of human nature, after all. But when the fear of failure eclipses your drive to succeed, that is when remedial action is called for.

At this juncture, when fear of failure is holding you back, it is time for some introspection to figure out where this fear is coming from and take a moment to reframe your beliefs.

Another vulnerability of the Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger is your hardiness. Yes, I agree. Being tough is a strength. But when the winds of change blow, and you are too unyielding or too unbending, this tree could literally break.

JIA YIN (甲寅)/WOOD TIGER: HOW YOU PRESENT

The Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger will always present a serene and level-headed face to the world at large. So don’t be surprised if everyone runs to you when there seems to be trouble afoot! Think of how the woodland creatures run into the protection of the benevolent tree when a storm is brewing. That’s how it’s gonna be for you!

JIA YIN (甲寅), BUT BETTER

Any suggestion to improve on the Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger pillar will revolve around ensuring that this tree doesn’t get uprooted. It’s about learning to bend a little and adopt a willingness to understand the perspectives of others.

The Jia Yin (甲寅) or Wood Tiger has a ‘hidden pull’ relationship with the Hai (亥) branch which carries your Ren Water (壬) Resource star. What this means is that help is always near at hand whenever you need it. All you have to do, is learn a little give-and-take.

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.

#50 GUI CHOU (癸丑)/WATER OX: THE GIFT OF UNIQUENESS

Imagined as ice or snow, the Gui Chou (癸丑) or Water Ox pillar is unique, like how every snowflake is literally different and unique. By this, I mean the actual, real, literal snowflakes… not the present-day derogatory slang that describes a person who is overly sensitive!

GUI CHOU (癸丑)/WATER OX: OVERVIEW

I think one of the best (and certainly most entertaining) way to give a quick overview of the Gui Chou (癸丑) or Water Ox Day Master would be to reference Princess Elsa from the hit animation movie Frozen!

Like Elsa, the Gui Chou Day Master will frequently come across as cold and stand-offish. You keep people at arms-length. But beneath that Ice Queen (or Ice King) exterior, beats a warm and loving heart only glimpsed by those fortunate enough to penetrate through your icy armour.

GUI CHOU (癸丑)/WATER OX: STRENGTHS

In the Gui Chou (癸丑) or Water Ox pillar, this Gui (癸) Day Master is rooted and sits on the storage of your Resource Star which is represented by the Metal element. When the overall conditions of the Bazi Chart support this formation, we see this as someone who is comfortable in their own skin, secure in their unique identity, a law unto themselves.

  1. The energy of this pillar begins with the hidden Ji Earth (己) Influence star. Given the innate resources of the Ji Earth (己), the Gui Chou (癸丑) or Water Ox Day Master will usually be mavericks who prefer to learn things through your own efforts. From your point of view, the learning process is something deeply personal and should, ideally, happen unfettered by someone else’s opinions. This Ji Earth (己) Influence Star is also responsible for a large swath of your perfectionistic attitude. There is a strong drive for excellence here, something that you demand from yourself and others.
  2. Your Ji Earth (己) Influence star produces your Xin Metal (辛) Resource star. Within this pillar, the Xin Metal manifests as your methodical and meticulous approach to life in general. You believe in accuracy. Everything must be just so!
  3. Lastly, your Xin Metal (辛) Resource star produces or strengthens both your Gui Water (癸) Day Master and Companion element. This relationship further adds to your independent nature. You neither need nor expect much external help. Instead, you are willing to work hard to distinguish yourself and realize your ambitions for success.

GUI CHOU (癸丑)/WATER OX: VULNERABILITIES TO BE AWARE OF

The same drive for excellence described in your strengths could also become your Achilles heel. You put unnecessary pressure on yourself and when things don’t go as expected, you risk becoming rash, impetuous and overly critical.

That perfectionistic streak that serves you so well could also be a stumbling block in your journey to success. This usually happens when you cling stubbornly to an idea or ideal, adamant in your wish to prove everyone wrong.

Finally, I rarely write about the health aspects of Bazi. That’s because I believe that matters of physical health should best be left to the doctors and scientists. However, I shall make an exception in this case. The Gui Chou (癸丑) is vulnerable to health issues. This happens when the Gui Water (癸) melts into the Ji Earth (己) and becomes contaminated. Typically, this manifests as potentially illnesses of the lungs like influenza and pneumonia. Given the Covid-19 global pandemic, I urge you to be extra careful with your health.

There is a theory that famed Chinese strategist Zhuge Liang was a Gui Chou Day Master. When he reached his Fire Luck Pillar, the Gui Water melted into the Ji Earth, which accounted for his untimely death due to tuberculosis. Interesting theory of course, but unconfirmed. We have no way to check Zhuge Liang’s Bazi Chart. He was born in 181 AD! He may have simply worked himself to an early grave by over-exertion, working desperately to keep the Shu-Han dynasty intact with a feckless emperor Liu Shan at the helm (son of Liu Bei).

GUI CHOU (癸丑)/WATER OX: HOW YOU PRESENT

That icy armour of yours can also be your biggest vulnerability. The Gui Chou (癸丑) or Water Ox Day Master is a very private and reserved person. In a modern-day society that gravitates towards the noisy extrovert, this could be one of the reasons why you don’t receive much external support.

GUI CHOU (癸丑), BUT BETTER

Recognizing the cold exterior you present to the world, becoming Gui Chou (癸丑) but better simply means allowing the world to see you for who you really are – that unique and intelligent person with a caring soul.

You could also open yourself to the spiritual side of life. By fostering a stronger connection with the universe and learning to trust your intuition, you can still remain true to yourself but with the added advantage of a positive outlook. With just that one small advantage, you can create miracles.

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.

#49 REN ZI (壬子)/WATER RAT: THE GIFT OF ADAPTABILITY

Dear Ren Zi (壬子) or Water Rat, what would you be if you could live a life without boundaries? Likened to an iceberg floating on the vast ocean, what you see on the surface is barely a tenth of what lies beneath. A water pillar through and through, intelligence and adaptability are the hallmarks of the Ren Zi (壬子) or Water Rat.

REN ZI (壬子)/WATER RAT: OVERVIEW

In the study of Bazi, the Water element in general, governs wisdom, thoughts, intelligence and emotions. Ren Water (壬) specifically, is likened to a large body of water. Though free flowing at its core, this element is also very adaptable. It takes on the shape of the land around it. Yet there is latent power within this body of water. Given time, it can re-shape the earth.

These same characteristics can be found in the Ren Zi (壬子) or Water Rat Day Master. You are amiable and genial. Like the adaptable water, you display a bona fide enjoyment in people. This gift alone makes it possible for you to instantly connect with everyone that comes into your orbit. And given time, you too, can influence and re-shape the thinking of those around you.

With the entire ocean as your playground, the Ren Zi will do particularly well if you focus your efforts on careers or businesses that require a large amount of interaction with the public. You are amicable. People like you. They ‘click’ easily with you. Think of them as little fishes in your ocean. Once they are swimming within your currents, you get to corral them in your many coral gardens.

Isn’t that a cool gift to have? Surf’s up, people… let’s ride the waves of your strengths.

REN ZI (壬子)/WATER RAT: STRENGTHS

Self-assured, dauntless, independent and authoritative, the Ren Zi Day Master is never shy about taking charge under any circumstances. You have supreme confidence in your own intelligence and resourcefulness to overcome any obstacle. Yes, just like a large body of Water that easily sweeps past all barriers in its quest to reach the ocean. You are self-sufficient, and galvanized by an insatiable thirst for success.

This Ren (壬) Day Master sits on the Rat Branch or Zi (子) which carries the singular energy of your Companion star, the Gui Water (癸). Here is the wellspring of your fluid and sharp mind. This is how you can absorb new information and blend theory into practice with such admirable ease.

It’s been said time and again that the Rat Branch (Zi 子) holds a particularly restless energy. In your case, this manifests as a strong desire for constant exploration. The world is literally your oyster and there is nothing you like better than to keep experiencing, tasting, and learning all that life has to offer.

The Zi Branch also pulls in the Chou (丑) or Ox that carries your Xin Metal (辛) Resource Star. As a result, the Ren Zi is compelled by a strong desire to keep learning. Your intellectual interests are far-ranging, wide as the ocean. When given the freedom you need to thrive, it is not uncommon to see Ren Zi Day Masters succeeding in multiple fields or industries.

If all that intellectual power and adaptability is not enough, the Ren Zi (壬子) Day Master is highly adept at playing the long game. Like a river resolutely winding its way to the sea, you too can plan and stay the course of your dreams.

Blessed with so much capacity and dexterity, what could possibly trip up the Ren Zi? Doesn’t this pillar seem almost invincible? To discover the vulnerabilities of this Day Master, we will need to don our divers’ suit, strap on the oxygen tank and dive beneath the surface.

REN ZI (壬子)/WATER RAT: VULNERABILITIES TO BE AWARE OF

The ocean can be misleading. It may be silky smooth at the top but beware the currents that roil deep within its depths. I’m sure by now, even the most casual student of Bazi can identify the vulnerabilities of the Ren Zi.

Remember how I said earlier that Water governs emotions and thoughts? This is where your vulnerabilities lie. Over-thinking caused by emotions so powerful that sometimes they even scare you.

These repressed emotions are dangerous as they may show up as ongoing emotional issues or unhealthy behaviour like escapism. It’s not so easy for the Ren Zi Day Master to dissociate. At times like these, some ‘me time’ to rest, self-soothe and self-care are a must.

REN ZI (壬子): HOW YOU PRESENT

Still waters run deep, is how you present. Always externally affable, outgoing and poised, befriending you is the easiest thing in the world! That moment when you reveal the dormant force within, that is when the ‘shock and awe’ happens.

Knowing what you know now, learn to use that to your advantage. Sometimes a slow reveal works better. Not everyone can handle the shock and awe. We wouldn’t want those little fishies to scurry away, now do we?

REN ZI (壬子), BUT BETTER

Most of the vulnerabilities of the Ren Zi (壬子) or Water Rat Day Master happens when the Gui Water (癸) Companion star or as it is technically called the Goat Blade, runs amok. Anxiety and indecision are the natural consequences of those turbulent and churning emotions, that restless mind.

To calm the Goat Blade, we need to use the Influence star which, in your case, is represented by the sturdy and stable Wu Earth (戊). This element will help you channel your energy and give you the stability you need to thrive at your best.

So how on earth should you ‘use’ this elemental energy called the Wu Earth (戊)? Easy! In times of doubt, when you are feeling swamped, hew to your towering ambitions. Never forget the final destination that you have set for yourself. Let this ambition be the lighthouse that guides you past the treacherous currents and get you back into flow.

While you are here, I just want to let you know that the 2022 Rat Forecast is out: https://thehiddensun.com/2021/10/15/the-rat-in-2022/

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.

#48 XIN HAI (辛亥)/METAL BOAR: THE GIFT OF INDIVIDUALISM

In the study of Bazi, the Xin Metal (辛), also known as the Metal Boar, is always imagined as fine jewellery or precious stones. But even the most brilliant of diamonds need an artisan’s skills for its true nature to be revealed. Meet the Xin Metal pillar that is perfection in itself – the Xin Hai (辛亥).

This pillar is imagined as a pearl cultivated or naturally formed in an oyster. When the pearl is extracted, it is already stunningly beautiful, shiny and lustrous, requiring minimal human intervention for its true beauty to be seen. It is perfection.

XIN HAI (辛亥)/METAL BOAR: OVERVIEW

I think it goes without saying that the Xin Hai or Metal Boar is an attractive pillar. It is charming, blessed with a commanding presence and possesses a highly articulate wit that can be both boon and bane for you, the Xin Hai Day Master.

Make no mistake. For all its refinements, the Xin Hai Day Master is no pushover. You have resilience and determination in spades. Most of all, the Xin Hai is all about individualism.

Without further ado, let’s delve into your strengths.

XIN HAI (辛亥)/METAL BOAR: STRENGTHS

  1. This Xin Metal (辛) Day Master is seated on the Hai (亥) branch which is equivalent to sitting on its Bath position. When a Day Master sits at the Bath stage, you will invariably be an infinitely curious individual, with interests aplenty. This position also endows you with a powerful and dynamic personality that is at once individualistic and outgoing.
  2. This Xin Metal Day Master sits on a prosperous Ren Water (壬) Hurting Officer star. This Ren Water is the wellspring of your artistic and creative abilities as well as your strong ambitions, opinions and emotions. Buoyed by this Ren Water Hurting Officer star’s individualistic streak, in your world, there is no mountain too high.
  3. The Ren Water (壬) Hurting Officer, in turn, produces your Jia Wood (甲) Direct Wealth star. These two stars (the Ren and the Jia) are seen to be in a harmonious producing relationship. With the two stars working together at max capacity, you’ve got creativity and productivity running in tandem. This combination also brings you more gifts – an abundance of intelligence, a sharp wit, the fearlessness to challenge the norm, and the perseverance to push the boundaries.

XIN HAI (辛亥)/METAL BOAR: WEAKNESSES TO BE AWARE OF

However, that same Ren (壬) -Jia (甲) producing relationship that brings so many gifts to the table, also creates some weaknesses that, I feel, should be highlighted to you.

Your Jia Wood (甲) Direct Wealth, regrettably, has a woeful tendency to be a little too candid and frank. I understand. Your plain-spokenness stems from a desire to be unambiguous and avoid misunderstandings. However, there is a difference between plain-speaking and uninhibited speech. I call your attention to that extraordinary wit of yours. With your ability to par down to the core of issues and problems, you would probably find it oh-so-easy to render speechless with your cutting wit. Use that power wisely!

Your Ren Water (壬) Hurting Officer is also not without its weaknesses. The Hurting Officer loves a lavish lifestyle, so learning to invest and manage your finances must be a priority for any Xin Hai Day Master.

When this Ren Water (壬) Hurting Officer becomes too strong, you can easily become testy and irresolute. This anxiety is a common occurrence when Metal (Xin) is drowned out by too much Water (Ren). To explain, the Xin Hai Day Master has lost its razor-sharp clarity because you are swamped by emotions and doubts. At the end of the day, the Xin Hai Day Master only exudes the persona of one who is driven by logic. Most of the time, you are really driven by your emotions. Therefore, when the emotions overwhelm, that is when focus is lost.

Becoming aware of this tendency is the first step to gaining control. Learning to release your stress in a healthy manner or to channel your strong emotions in a positive way will help you stay centred under any circumstances.

XIN HAI (辛亥): HOW YOU PRESENT

The plain-speaking tendencies of the Xin Hai or Metal Boar pillar may give you the reputation of one who is fierce, no-nonsense and forthright. However, once they get past your sharp wit, people will be delighted to find someone who is very caring and gracious. It’s getting past that first impression that could be a problem.

This impression is further intensified by your ambivalence towards attention and socializing. This contradictory attitude can be easily explained in Bazi. The Xin Metal (辛) Day Master will always be pulling in the Bing Fire (丙) Direct Officer star (in Bazi, Bing and Xin combines, while the Direct Officer star represents authority and status). Yet at the same time, the Hai (亥) branch repels the Si (巳) which carries the main Qi of the Bing Fire. This is where the push-pull happens. You want status and authority. You may even crave for it. Yet at the same time, you may be subconsciously repressing that desire.

XIN HAI (辛亥), BUT BETTER

The Xin Hai Day Master has a strong affinity with academic achievements. Therefore, the easiest way to let the Xin Hai pillar glow with lustre is to feed that exceptionally sharp and fast mind of yours with knowledge and information. Be as individualistic as you wish. After all, individualism emphasizes on personal freedom and achievements. In today’s modern society, your individualistic traits, backed by solid credentials, becomes an asset, not a liability.

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.

#47 GENG XU (庚戌)/METAL DOG: THE GIFT OF TOUGHNESS

All Geng Metal (庚) Day Masters are tough. You know that. I know that. Meet the toughest of ‘em all… the Geng Xu (庚戌), also known as the Metal Dog. If at all, this pillar would be the real Excalibur, a sword embedded in stone, its powers and toughness, waiting to unleash.

GENG XU (庚戌)/METAL DOG: OVERVIEW

Tough on the outside and inside, the sword represented by the Geng Xu (庚戌) pillar is the hardest of the 60 Jia Zi. The very characteristics of this pillar can be interpreted as an individual who is possesses both mental and physical strength, stamina and endurance.

It’s easy to recognize a Geng Xu (庚戌·) Day Master. This Geng Metal is tough and proud. Sitting on its Earth Resource Star, it is also resourceful and unyielding.

Enough with the generalities. Let’s delve into the make-up of this fascinating pillar.

GENG XU (庚戌): STRENGTHS

The first thing to note is that this Geng Day Master is firmly rooted. Of course, technically, we prefer if a Yang stem is rooted on another Yang stem. But in this case, the Geng Xu is rooted in its Xin Metal (辛) companion star, which in turn, is firmly embedded into the rocks. Not easy to dislodge this Xin Metal.

At the same time, it also sits on Fire Storage which continually tempers and moulds the Day Element. Now, at this point, please note that I described this pillar as ‘tough’. Nowhere did I say that the Geng Xu is rude or crass. On the contrary, the Geng Xu Day Master can be very pleasant and diplomatic, in spite of their natural ruthlessness and aggressiveness.

  1. The flow of Qi within this pillar begins with the Ding Fire (丁) Direct Officer star. Here is the spark of courage of conviction and confidence that burns deep within the Geng Xu Day Master.
  2. Seated on its Wu Earth (戊) Indirect Resource, the Geng Xu is at once intuitive and extremely self-willed. Words like ‘submissiveness’ and ‘compliance’ will be foreign or even nonexistent in this Geng Xu’s vocabulary. This Day Master knows that nothing worthwhile can ever be achieved without an equivalent amount of effort. With the support of this Wu Earth Resource Star, the Geng Xu has the mental and physical strength to take on any challenges and handle any hardship in pursuit of their goals.
  3. The meticulous nature of the Xin Metal (辛) Rob Wealth star brings big ambitions and yes, a degree of ruthlessness to the Geng Xu. At the same time, this Xin Metal companion star can also bring a rebellious streak to the Geng Xu pillar. While some may instinctively slap a negative label on a rebel, I believe this can be a strength as it helps the Geng Xu stay defiant in the face of limitations.

GENG XU (庚戌): WEAKNESSES TO BE AWARE OF

Like many of the other Day Masters seated on the Xu Branch, the Geng Xu will also crave material security. I’m not saying that the Geng Xu is materialistic, but this Day Master will tend to worry about money.

Additionally, this Day Master has zero defences against boredom. Even the sturdiest axe will rust if it is not continually in use. The sharpest blade will turn dull when it is not sharpened regularly. When a Geng Xu Day Master is bored out of his or her skull, depression may ensue or worse they may even get themselves into trouble unnecessarily.

A great example of this weakness can be seen in the recent trials and tribulations of a famous Geng Xu Day Master, Tiger Woods. We have all seen his strengths. We have all seen how he (politely) decimated his competitors on the golf course. We have also seen the scandals he got himself into once he retired!

Does it seem to you like the two Geng Xu weaknesses I’ve outlined so far seem to be rather trivial? If you constantly worry about money, then make more money! If you cannot abide boredom, then find something constructive to do!

This next weakness, however, may be the Geng Xu’s biggest flaw. Notice how most of my other posts are written in the active voice while this one is mostly composed in the passive voice? There’s a reason for it. There is a 90% chance that a Geng Xu Day Master will not be reading this article at all. If at all this post is being read, it would be by someone who is curious about a Geng Xu in their lives.

Allow me to explain. The Geng Xu pillar sits on the Wu Earth (戊) Indirect Resource. This Day Master will be naturally drawn to unconventional wisdoms (such as Chinese Metaphysics). Yet at the same time, the Xu will have a silent-push with the Chen (辰) or Dragon which also carries the Wu Earth as its main Qi. So, the Day Master sits on its Indirect Resource, but at the same time, pushes it away. This type of relationship simply means that the Geng Xu will tend to be sceptical about their own powerful intuitions. Learning to trust your instincts may be the biggest lesson you need to learn.

GENG XU (庚戌): HOW YOU PRESENT

The Geng Xu Day Master can be very generous about sharing their strengths with anyone within their orbit. However, you will tend to present as domineering, aggressive, ruthless (yes, again) and very out-spoken.

This trait can be a double-edged sword (pardon the pun!). It is a strength when you use your dominant personality to motivate your team to greater heights. It becomes a weakness if you frequently overrule other opinions and leave behind an environment of diminished morale.

This is something for the Geng Xu Day Master to be aware of. The reason is because, you may not even see your behaviour as heavy-handed. But others may do! Once you are conscious of this, you can then call upon the inborn diplomacy of the Geng Xu pillar to smooth things over and build better team consensus. You will need that consensus, which leads us to the next point…

GENG XU (庚戌), BUT BETTER

Being Geng Xu (庚戌), But Better requires the consensus I touched briefly on in the previous segment. The Geng Xu is tough, but it actually thrives on love and friendship. This pillar wants to be useful! You could say that sometimes, the Geng Xu may seem domineering simply because they care too much. A Geng Xu without friends and loved ones to serve and protect could easily lose faith in their own abilities.

Therefore, the Geng Xu must learn to build that base. The mountain you sit on must not be shaken. A leader can only lead when people are willing to follow. Therefore, the solution to being Geng Xu (庚戌), But Better is to use your strength, toughness and diplomacy to create a base of followers that you can lead to achieve your biggest dreams.

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.

BENDERA PUTIH: JULY 2021 ONLY – FREE COACHING FOR MALAYSIAN GEN-X

This is a part of my effort to contribute to the BenderaPutih movement in Malaysia, contributing back to Malaysians especially GenerationX or GenX.

WHY GEN-X?

GenX refers to those born between 1961 to 1981 (right now aged 40 to 60 years old) and this segment of the population needs a lot of support. This generation has the highest household debt because they are simultaneously supporting up to three generations. If a GenX’s income pipeline is damaged during the extended lockdown, recovery can be very challenging and stressful.

WHAT I’M OFFERING

A listening ear. Basically, I will hold a space for you where you can express your worries, talk through your problems, scream, cry and vent if you have to. You let me know what role you want me to play in the conversation – just a non-judgemental listening ear? Perhaps share a non-biased perspective? Maybe give some suggestions?

Pertinent details:

* I am available for conversations every weeknight from July 1 to 31, 2021 on my Facebook page.

* Time: 7:00pm to 10:00pm MYT

* We can either just chat on Facebook messenger or switch to Zoom (whichever you prefer)

* Conversant in English and Bahasa Malaysia (if by video call, conversant in Cantonese and rather clumsy Mandarin)

* ABSOLUTELY FREE – as long as I don’t have to plot any charts.

* NO STRINGS ATTACHED – no upsell, cross-sell, MLM promotions, investment schemes whatnot. Let’s put it this way… I won’t even ask you to subscribe to my YT Channel or FB page, ok?

* I must stress that I am not a mental health expert. As a certified life coach with the Malaysian Association of Corporate Coaches, I am, however, trained in deep listening.

So if you, GenX, are in need of some support. Please reach out. There is no need to suffer alone. If you know someone in need of a person to talk to, please help me share this video below:

#46 JI YOU (己酉)/EARTH ROOSTER: THE GIFT OF CHANGE

Driven by our survival instincts, most people are resistant to change. That is what’s so unique about the Ji You (己酉) or the Earth Rooster. This pillar has the capacity to not only accept change, but also to readily initiate it. This single trait alone sets your apart from the rest of the 59 pillars and puts you in a unique position for success.

JI YOU (己酉)/EARTH ROOSTER: OVERVIEW

Come with me to the desert, to a land of vast and shifting sand dunes. Miles upon miles of fine, golden sand lie before us. Sand, so fine that it trickles through your fingers and feels velvety smooth beneath your feet. But before we dismiss this sand as worthless, let’s dig a little deeper. For beneath this barren and brutal landscape, lies precious minerals waiting to be uncovered – just like the Ji You (己酉) pillar.

The Ji Earth, by its nature, is resourceful. In the case of the Ji You, this dry earth has the capacity and intelligence to absorb an enormous amount of information. At this point, allow me to digress just a little. I’m sure this is not the first Ji You web article that you have read. Every single one of them will surely remark upon your intelligence. But where does this intelligence come from?

Explained easily, this is because, this Ji Earth (己) Day Master is sitting on your own Growth and Intelligence star. Of the 60 Jia Zi, only six pillars sit on their own Intelligence Star. These six are the Bing Shen (丙申), Ding You (丁酉), Wu Shen (戊申), Ji You (己酉), Ren Yin (壬寅), and the Gui Mao (癸卯).

So you, the Ji You Day Master, is one of that fortunate six. From there, we deduce that this Ji You Day Master is likely to display an enormous amount of intellectual curiosity. Thanks to your endless curiosity on a wide range of subjects, very often, the Ji You Day Master can seem to be ahead of your times.

JI YOU (己酉): STRENGTHS

It’s always an easy write when a Day Master sits on a Cardinal Branch. There is only one hidden stem to focus on. Sometimes, less is really more.

  1. Acute Intelligence. This Ji You sits on its own thriving Eating God star. This Xin Metal (辛) Eating God is almost hitting its zenith. This Xin Metal Eating God star is the seat of your sharp intelligence and acute observational skills. Imaginative and detail-oriented, this particular Eating God star can make you a pioneer in your field purely from its audacity to dream big and ability to constantly innovate.
  2. Always In Motion. Like the constantly shifting sand dunes, changing shape from one hour to the next, this Ji You pillar craves freedom. Being confined can literally feel like hell and when stagnant or stuck, a Ji You becomes unproductive. This pillar needs constant mental and physical stimulation, the more you move, the happier you are.
  3. Independent. Ji You Day Masters have a propensity towards working slowly but independently to achieve success on your own. That’s a natural outcome of this pillar. For one, you are usually ahead of your time, so nobody else can keep up. Secondly, any Day Master as resourceful as the Ji Earth will tend to find the support of others to be rather negligible.
  4. Appetite For Change. In the introduction of this post, I touched briefly on the Ji You’s appetite for change. I’m sure you are curious where that comes from. It’s rather technical but let me explain it as succinctly as I can. This You Branch has a silent-pull relationship with the Chen (辰) or Dragon Branch that carries the energies of your Wu Earth (戊) Rob Wealth. This You-Chen silent pull is the reason why you enjoy the adrenaline rush of risk-taking. What is scary to others, is thrilling for you! This is where your adventurous bend comes from, and it is also the reason why the Ji You does not sit around waiting for change to happen. Instead, the Ji You has the courage and ambition to effect big changes.

JI YOU (己酉): HOW YOU PRESENT

To others, the Ji You can present externally as someone who is highly confident but of a serious and rather forbidding personality. Like how water is filtered through sand, you too will filter the people in your life. There’s nothing wrong with that. After all, the Ji You is rarely one who will waste time with empty conversations.

JI YOU (己酉): WEAKNESSES TO BE AWARE OF

Most of the weaknesses of the Ji You pillar will be more apparent during your formative and childhood years. You see, this Ji Earth can be delicate at the beginning of life. It takes time for this earth to solidify. This translates to insecurity and self-doubt. If unchecked, these insecurities may even lead to a proclivity for over-indulgence and escapism. In essence, the question to ask yourself is this: are you effecting change to improve your life, or are you creating change to run away from existing problems?

JI YOU (己酉), BUT BETTER

There are two particular elements that will bring a lot of stability and allow the Ji You pillar to shine bright. Since they are not found within the Day Master, you will need to consciously activate them.

  1. Use the Bing Fire () Direct Resource star. This Bing Fire will help to continuously produce the Ji Earth Day Master. Additionally, this Direct Resource star can also activate your inner compass that lets you know intuitively when you are on the right track. This star can be activated easily by ensuring that you benefit from quality education. Conversely, you can also use this star when you seek to grow spiritually and put focus on your self-development.
  2. Let your intelligence shine through, use the Jia Wood () Direct Officer star. The biggest drawback of the Ji You pillar is that this Earth is covering up the Intelligence star. To let your light shine through, we will need to employ the Jia Wood Direct Officer star. So now you’re wondering, how on earth should you activate this star? Easy! Either find a mentor or two, or learn the skills of the Direct Officer which are diplomacy and discipline.

As always, a final caveat. Without the ability to see the full chart, I must stress that the suggestions in this article are broad recommendations based on a single pillar.
